 Media Forum

In 2001, IPCC and the Peres Center for Peace established the Media Forum. Editors, columnists and reporters are brought together annually; the groups are composed of a combination of senior and promising young professionals from a variety of Palestinian and Israeli media institutions. The Forum's objectives are to narrow information gaps, to analyze together the media coverage of the most recent years and to establish fruitful dialogue. The agenda includes: formal analytical presentations on key media issues by Israeli and Palestinian participants; open discussions over identity, misperceptions and stereotypes in the context of media. A special session was devoted to a case study examination of the media coverage of Camp David; other sessions have focused on the ongoing news coverage of the second Intifada and the Israeli segregation wall .A future phase of this work will include analysis of images projected via the Internet during the course of the al-Aqsa Intifada. IPCC's image research parallels the efforts of other research centers tracking images of Palestinians in Israeli media and images of Israelis in Jordanian media. During May, 2004 the Forum held a Palestinian- Israeli Journalists workshop in Berlin, Palestinian and Israeli participants included leading key journalists from local and international. Media outlets, Written and electronic media, as well as academics in the field of communication. In September, 2004 another workshop was held in Turkey to discuss topics of professional and contemporary interest. This marks the fifth workshop held since 2001, serving to gather ninety journalists so far.
