IPCC Civil Society Network
For several years IPCC has conducted capacity building training programs for labor groups, youth, and women’s organizations. The training has centered on the skills and knowledge required for empowerment of civil society. IPCC’s work in this area began in May 1998. IPCC and the Olof Palme Center (OPC) conducted conferences in Jerusalem, Nablus, and Gaza. Involved were forty Swedish and Palestinian organizations from the labor movement, youth groups, academic and professional associations, NGO’s and community based groups. Relationships between counterpart groups were developed. As a result of these conferences, IPCC and OPC organized training and capacity building programs centering on civil society capacity building, the development of democracy and international dialog.
Similar projects are envisioned for the near future, some involving youth from marginalized groups and remote districts. Both projects will center on extending participatory skills to the citizenry at large.
Further, the IPCC acts as an umbrella institution for fellow grassroots Palestinian development organizations which include: women NGOs, youth movement, child organizations, and co-operative unions. The role of IPCC would be to involve these organizations in International networks and alliances of organizations with similar interests and encourage the establishment of partnerships between them. The IPCC would be guiding and supervising the process but not directly involved in implementing projects with fellow institutions.
